Hi! I’m Evie, a climbing coach based in Christchurch, NZ. I’m currently a science student at the University of Canterbury, and spend the rest of my free time climbing, skiing and baking.
I specialise in coaching beginner and intermediate climbers, working with a wide variety of ages within classes, and with private clients, at Uprising Boulder Gym.
I’m open to any style of lesson to suit your needs: by yourself or with friends, practice or training, free-style or structured.
My approach to your climbing starts with your goals, whether it be a climbing trip, a project, a single move, techniques and general improvement, mental strength, or competition training!
We can work together to develop a plan that is right for you.
I’m happy to do one-off sessions, more regular schedules, or on a casual basis depending on your needs and availability.

I’ve been coaching on a weekly basis for over 7 years, including with the Flying Geckos Climbing Club in Christchurch, during which time I’ve also been competing in bouldering & sport-climbing at the highest level within NZ, and as a NZ athlete.
At the Geckos, I’ve worked with a range of different climbers, from young social climbers to competition athletes, and have also been mentoring the next generation of youth climbing coaches.
Since 2020, I’ve been working with Uprising Boulder Gym to establish their Youth Academy Program, designing fun sessions for young climbers in structured and freestyle learning environments. I’ve coached a regular adults technique development program too. Most of my current work is with individual climbers as part of Uprising’s private coaching work.
Further development of my safety management skills came from my role on the Brain Busters TV set, managing the safe operation of the obstacle course.
I have no hesitation in recommending Evie as an excellent climbing coach. I have been climbing for years but even then the rich repertoire of techniques that she has taught me (and reminded me) has greatly improved my climbing and confidence. | LL
